Skye and Lochalsh Association for Disability was set up in 1983, it is an autonomous organisation registered as a Scottish Charity and a Company limited by guarantee.
The Association has been providing a Day Care service in south Skye since 1984 and two of the current attendees have been using the service since it was established. We now have a new name - Kyleakin Connections.
Core funding is provided by Highland Council and NHS Highland. Supplementary funding has been provided by fund raising events organised from the centre and successful applications to other funders.
Our Aims
Are to encourage independent living for people with learning disabilities, to help develop their independence and to lead ordinary, fully inclusive lives within the community.
We offer a place where people can come together to learn new skills and improve existing skills.
We are open Wednesday to Friday between 10.00 am and 3.45 pm.
Adult Basic Education tutors visit every Thursday to give one to one tuition.
The weekly programme can include computer work, special interest groups, cooking, baking, gardening, art, crafts, games, quizzes, keep-fit and sports activities.
We enter Disability Sports competitions throughout the year as well as occasional field trips, otter walks, and garden visits.
Seasonal activities take place for Christmas shopping, Pantomimes, Carol concerts and Christmas dinners. Our trips are usually designed to have an educational, cultural or sports objective.
